A few months back a good friend of mine, along with a few others started an online Fashion magazine called Tula. Tula is a bi-monthly Calgary based mag that focus' on the arts, fashion, culture and the world around us. It's the perfect place for us to express what we think is important; it's our voice. I have written two articles now, and I plan to continue to. I really love that Tula is real. The people behind it are young and connected with their audience and the world in which they live.

School's out!

I am so excited. School is finally over and it's summertime. Well, actually, I didn't quite finish Social Studies, so I have to go to school for the rest of the week to try and finish it. Let's be honest though; now that some of my friends have cars, I haven't gotten too much done. We're always going on Tim Horton's runs (for those of you outside of Canada, you are seriously missing out on Tim Horton's.), or on some kind of adventure! However I will do my very best to finish it off; there's nothing worse than doing grade ten work in grade eleven, except maybe doing grade ten work in grade twelve.....

In my absence from blogging for the past little while I have accumulated a few ideas, photos and all-round epicness to share with you guys.

The first and most important being my new bedroom, which my good friend Danielle and I decided to decorate one day after her making a comment about how boring it was. So we went on an exploration around my house to find things to make it more "Suzanne-like". It was actually very fun. One of my favorite pieces that we found is a rug that my Dad had gotten when he travelled around Asia before university. I also found these suitcases that I had painted when I was younger. I always thought they were pretty cool, although admittedly I was not the best artist when I was younger.... Never the less, they are there! I also found this stone horse that my Dad has had forever and Danielle gave me a little heck for it, as it's a fairly unattractive horse. However, it's something that I have always loved, so I put it in there anyways.

Also, I've mentioned in a previous post that I decided to boycott all Chinese products and told you that I'd keep you posted. Well, it is very difficult. Today in particular, as I was in BCBG and my Danielle convinced me to try on this really cute mini dress for fun even though it was made in China. Needless to say, I fell in love with it. I was not a happy camper when I had to leave the store without it. I was extremely surprised to find that BCBG was made in china, as they're a higher end brand that, in my opinion, should be made in places with higher quality clothing making history. But hey, that's life!

First off, I am super-duper sorry for being such a freaking lazy blogger!! I've been really busy with school and the play (I'm on the costume crew for my school's play), and I also went down to Mexico for Easter break. So, yeah, I do have somewhat valid excuses, however they certainly do not excuse my poor blogging behavior, err, lack of blogging behavior.....

Anyways, my trip to Mexico was brilliant! I was staying about an hour away from Cancun just outside of a town called Playa Del Carmen. It was amazing; the weather was warm, although there was a bit of a cold spell when we first go down there-only about 28 celsius!! I was a little camera lazy though, so i didn't get too many cool pictures. But I will show you the ones that I did get! Or if you want to see all of them, just add me as a friend on facebook, and when I post them on there you can see the full extent of my trip.

Last but not least I feel like I should introduce you to my good friend Keagan, who was actually the head of costumes for the play, and also has really amazing style. So this is what she was wearing when we were leaving to go get food after school before the play on Monday. I apologize that I didn't get that great of pictures, but my camera was dying, so I took what I could.

So, it's one thirty in the morning and I'm fairly tired, as most nights I would've been in be about four hours ago. I know, I'm kind of a dork. I'm going to sleep now!!

Oh, and by the way, as soon as I got back to Calgary from Mexico it snowed. I am not a happy camper, as I was planning on pulling my longboard out! Hopefully it'll melt soon. Send me warm weather vibes!!!! Bye all, and comment away!!

As I was looking on street peeper I found this girl from New York and just had to share her with you. I absolutely love how she wears her vintage pieces. So cute.
So I apologize for not posting that much lately, but I've been a little stressed out with school and stuff. I'm on the costume crew for my school's play coming up, so that's been taking up a lot of my time, and I'm also pretty behind with my school work.

This is the outfit that I wore for my birthday dinner this weekend. I'm officially sixteen, whoo!!!! haha. I had an amazing birthday; there was powder when I was coaching, so that was amazing.

Also after studying a bit of China in school I have made the decision to boycott China. I officially started my boycott yesterday and believe me, this is going to be very difficult.

If at all possible I will try not to buy anything made is china unless it's thrifted. I will not get rid of the Chinese products that I already own because that would be silly, but I will do everything in my power not to purchase Chinese made products. I will keep you guys posted on my progress!

This is my outfit from yesterday. I had not worn my blue tights in quite a while, so I threw them on yesterday just for the heck of it. So normally I wear this shirt dress with a belt around my hip area, but I think I like it way better with the skinny belt up higher.

Alright, finally, here are the pictures from my school's February formal last week. Sorry it took me so long, but I was waiting for Rob to email me the photos he took. The dance was a blast!

Normally, I'm the first one to pile on the accessories, however with this dress I couldn't really find anything I liked with it. I guess with such a huge sequin bow anything else would have looked silly.

Robert was there with all his super nice photography stuff taking pictures for a few dollars which went towards the heart and stroke foundation which was cool. If you want to see more of his work check him out here and here.

I'm quite excited for my birthday next month (it's the big sweet sixteen!!) because I'm hoping that my parents will get me this sony camcorder I've been looking at. I've always been interested in film, but never really had the chance to get into due to the lack of equipment and such. Hopefully if I do get it I can start making videos and I'll post them for you guys to watch! I'm not entirely sure what exact genre my videos will be, but I'll try different things and hopefully find my niche.

I was pretty bored the other day and I didn't want to do homework, so what else could I do but to go in my backyard and have an epic photo taking sesh!! So yes, I am a bit of a loser, but I did have a bit of fun with it :)

I'm pretty excited because my dad is planning on taking my brother and I on a trip sometime in the spring (not like a spring break "let's all go crazy" trip, but a fun "let's get out of the snow" trip). I really love To Sir, With Love, it's one of my favorite movies of all time. I'm watching it on tv right now, and looking at what the kids are wearing is quite entertaining. I enjoy imagining what pieces could work for modern day and which would look absolutely ridiculous! My favorite characters in this move are for sure Pamela Dare and Barbara Pegg. They both have really amazing style!

Right now I'm attempting to knit a scarf. I really do enjoy knitting, although after a few hours my wrists get mildly sore! haha. I'm quite excited about this latest project because this time I'm trying something different. I decided to use two different colors of wool. A turquoise and a brown. it's starting to look really cool :)

Alright, so happy 2009 (in however many hours that is) everyone! I'm super pumped for tonight, it'll be a blast.

I appreciate all of your input and after alot of consideration I have decided on outfit C. I think it'll be the best one because it's practical enough that I can wear it all evening. I also love that it has really big pockets so that i can keep my camera and my phone with me at all times :). I think I may wear different shoes though.. I'm still deciding there.

So yesterday was quite an adventure if I do say so myself! A few of my friends and I decided to go shopping on seventeenth ave, but we had to take the bus and the c-train to get there. Now, I'll be completely honest; I am horrible at using public transit. Don't get me wrong, I use it everyday to get to school, but that's only two buses that I need to know the routes for and their some pretty main ones. There is also the problem of me only really taking the c-train about 5 times a year because I never really need to. So knowing all this I'm sure you can imagine how it all turned out. We made it from my friends house to the train station okay, and all was going well until we got of a few stops too early. It wasn't that big of a deal though because we were already downtown and the next stop was only about two blocks away. There was also the problem of the temperature. You'd think that three girls who have lived in Calgary their whole lives would know how to dress for the weather, but no. So we didn't really want to wait at a bus stop and take the bus the ten blocks over we had to go. So we decided it would be a fantastic idea to walk there using the +15's, or at least part of the way. So, +15's are pathways connecting a bunch of the main buildings in downtown. That was all a hackshow and a half, but eventually we did make it to 11 ave using those and we knew how to get to seventeenth from there, but it was all quite silly.

Okay, just a quickie today.

So right now I'm just chillin at home, and watching BBC news. The traffic was ridiculous when my mom tried to drive me to school today, so she turned around and came home. I swear, when it snows some people just forget how to drive, haha. BUT, it has been snowing which I'm very excited about. I'm pretty pumped to get out skiing again, although I decided that I didn't want to race this year, so instead I've decided I'm going to coach little kids :). How fun will that be?! Haha, I'm very excited though. I love little kids; they're so funny.

I really love the show What Not to Wear, I'm watching it right now and the woman on it is 41 and probably in the best shape I have ever seen a 41 year-old is in. Like, wow. She found a really pretty dress that had a tighter top, and then flowed out from under the bust. It had a very pretty floral print, and now I really want one like it lol.

So on tuesday I was at the Rise Against concert, and it was amazing. They played a few songs from their new album. So because I enjoyed it so much, I bought the new album on itunes the next day. I'm already in love with the two songs hero of war, and savior. If you guys are into that kind of music you should definitely check it out.

So, I really want to find some cute dresses for the holidays, even though I probably won't be at any parties, haha. I was just looking at teenvogue.com and their ten best dressed for november, and I really liked almost all of the looks, but I absolutely fell in love with this one:

Maria Sharapova wore this to the CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund Awards in New York on November seventeenth. It's a Richard Chai. I love it to pieces.

I realize that cloning is a subject that most people don’t pay too much attention to, but as I was reading an article about it all I could think about was how completely pointless it all was. Don’t we already have overpopulation issues as it is? I agree that it is very interesting, but I feel that the people who are studying this and spending so much time trying to clone things are wasting their time and money. They are all obviously very intelligent, but wouldn’t it make more sense to put their genius towards coming up with something useful? For example; they could put their biology smarts toward solving the food shortage crisis around the world. I mean come on, there are people out there who can’t afford to feed their families, some don’t even have access to clean water, and these scientists are spending all this money on trying to clone a monkey. Priorities people!! Food for the starving people in third world countries, or asexual reproduction in monkeys; to me, it’s a no-brainer. Okay, well, there’s my rant for the day. I also apologize for any incorrect facts or wording.

So, right now I’m pretty much just trying to waste time here at school. I actually have been doing a bit of work, but mostly I’ve been reading the news on BBC, and looking up stuff on Wikipedia. I'm going to a concert tonight, but I'll try to post some pictures tomorrow.

Until then, I'll be pondering about the subject of what I'm going to wear to holiday parties this year. I will report back to you with what I've discovered.

I'm looking for something floral

So, my internet hasn't been working for the past few days and that's why I haven't been able to post. Last week I went down to seventeenth ave again, and again I went into Divine, which I'm sure you've figured out by now is my favorite store pretty much ever. Haha :). This time I got a vest, and two sweaters. When one of the girls who worked there asked me if I was looking for anything in particular; I said that I was in the mood for something floral, and she pulls out this adorable cropped cardigan. It's cream colored and has little roses all over it, which is a completely different kind of floral I was thinking of, but I was surprised at how much I loved it. These outfits are from the past few days:

I don't know how many of you are studying physics in science ten right now, but that's what I'm working on. Today I was reading the section on efficiency and energy consumption, and I was appalled at how inefficient a lot of things are. I really became aware of how much energy we do waste, and how the kinds of energy we use are not very good for the environment, and aren't renewable. Here in Alberta, we are really bad, because we produce so many fossil fuels, that's what a majority of people use as their source of energy. I completely understand that fossil fuels are cheaper than things like hydro-electric dams, and nuclear power plants, but by people and companies using a method called cogeneration, which is defined as the process of using waste energy from one process to power a second process.

Okay, well, I don't really know what my point is, but I definitely am going to try and be more conscious of how I use energy, and waste it.

I'm very happy with myself today because I worked really hard at school today, and I think I got alot done. I even did homework when I got home!! I'm pretty sure that this was the only the third time I've done homework all year, haha. Oh boy.

So today I wore a vest that I had made out of a sweater that I got at a garage sale a few years ago. I don't think that I ever wore the sweater, so then the other day I saw it in my closet, and said to myself: "that could be a cute vest, hmmm" . So I cut off the sleeves and the collar, and voila! I think it's got a cute sort of boho look. Tell me what you think:

Alright, I'm guilty. I've been neglecting my blog, and I'm super sorry!
So, lately I've mostly been trying to get alot of school work done, and not much else. I have however been able to do a little bit of shopping. About two weeks ago I skipped the afternoon school and went to see some of my friends who go to school on seventeenth ave, but I was there a little bit early so I went across the street to divine. Then, I went to The Rocket, which is a sweet store where they do customized shirts, among other things, and I got a extra long t-shirt that had a picture of the earth with a bunch of factories, and it said: "This is Why I'm Hot." I thought it was pretty sweet :),

So while we've been down here in Colorado, my ski team has gone to two sports games. We went to an Avalanche game, and a Broncos game, and at both of them, the home team lost. They were both alot of fun though. The hockey game was awesome, and being Canadian, I know how to play it, so it was pretty easy to follow. It was particularly amusing to watch a lady sitting a few rows down from us, freak out the whole game. She was actually hilarious. At the Broncos game I pretty much had no idea what was going on. Don't get me wrong, Football is a pretty big sport at home, but I've just never really gotten into it. I'm not so keen on how much stopping there is, I mean there's only fifteen minute quarters, and we were there for three hours! Oh man. It's okay, I had alot of fun anyways.

Alright, so, being Canadian, I obviously can't vote in the American election, but I have been following it. My main issue in this election is the economy. Because of this looming recession, I am really interested in what the US is planning on doing to save our economy. The United States has one of the biggest economy's in the world, and it affects all aspects of life for people everywhere.
Right about now, it looks like Obama is taking this one home, but there's still time yet.

So on Halloween we all dressed up and went out for about 20 minutes and then got bored and came back home. Haha. So, I don't really know what to call what I was, but it had a very 80's flare to it.

Yes, I do realize that this outfit is completely awful, however when it's cold out and you're scraping your ski's it's acceptable. I managed to pull my sweatpants under my aa dress, and pile two cardigans on top. Yet I was still a bit chilly.

All that aside, I'm having a really awesome trip. It snowed almost a foot the other day, and the mountain went from brown to white in a matter of probably 20 hours. I've been working on my Giant Slalom this week, and I'm pretty pumped because I'm actually improving quite a bit. Today we also got to take out our Super G skis for a bit, and it was so sweet. Okay, for those of you who have no idea what I'm talking about, I'll try to put it in perspective: GS aka Giant Slalom is medium turns around blue and red gates with flags in the middle, SG aka Super Giant Slalom is slightly bigger turns than GS around similar gates, SL aka Slalom is tight turns around one pole gates which you can hit with your shins and poles, and lastly DH aka Downhill are super big turns around red gates(in the world cup people get going to over 150 km/h in DH).

Alright, so I feel like I should introduce you to my second family, also known as my ski team.

Colorado and Such.

Alright, so we arrived in Colorado two days ago and so far it's been really sweet. It was shitting snow today while we were skiing, and hopefully there'll be powder tomorrow.
We're staying in Silverthorne which is about an hour away form Denver, and about twenty minutes from the ski hill Loveland. There's this really fabulous outlet mall in town and I can't wait to go shopping on the weekend. There's also this skateboard store where I'm thinking about buying a longboard.
The day before I left I was in desperate need of a Halloween costume, and I just really wanted to go thrifting, so my buddy Monica and I headed over to Value Village after school. I ended up finding a sweet Halloween costume(which was only 5.99, I was pretty pumped), as well as a few other things as.

So the two sweaters, the dress and the cowboy boots are what I got at Value Village. Monica got the Jazzersize sweater, the cowboys boots, and the dress there too. I freaking love that place :)

Alright, so I’m at school right now and I can’t really do anything. I leave to go to Colorado tomorrow for three weeks. I was planning on writing two tests today (btw, that’s how it works at my school, you do what you want, when you want), and I went to the testing center and they told me that I didn’t have enough time to write the second test, which was English, because we end at 2.15 on Fridays. So pretty much I’m not a happy camper right now.
I am really excited about Colorado though. We went last year for two weeks and it was super fun. There’s this really great outlet mall by where we’re staying, and last year I did some major damage there. This year however, I’m trying this new thing called “saving money”, crazy, I know. So I’m going to limit my spending this year by only bringing a certain amount of American cash, and leaving my debit card at home. I have a slight feeling that I’m going to blow all my money in the first few days, but I’ll try my best.
Last year we stayed in a town called Frisco, which was really cute, and I found this amazing second hand store where I got a Louis Vuitton purse for 80 dollars. Now I know that you’re all assuming that it was fake, but I swear to you that it is completely legit. I don’t mess around when it comes to Louis Vuitton.
So today I wore my sweater vest, with a pair of really wide leg jeans I got at the Oakley-Billabong sample sale a while back. I’ll try to post a picture later.

I'm thankful for my France pants.

Ya, my family's pretty laid back, I was probably the most dressed up person there. haha. These are one of my favorite pairs of pants. I love the high-waistedness of them, they're super comfy and I love how they look. I got the pants at a really sweet store in France. I'd tell you the name of it, but I don't really know what it is. I'm pretty sure it's japanese, because the symbol was really weird... ya, well. Happy Thanksgiving everyone!

A few weeks ago while shopping on seventeenth ave, I stopped into Divine. I love Divine because it has the best of both worlds: new and vintage. The front bit of the store has a bunch of cute dresses, coats, and really cute other stuff. In the center of the store is probably the most pairs of different Chucks I have ever seen. Then behind that is a bunch of racks of vintage clothing. Some of the clothes in the back are slightly ridiculous, but it's all still amazing. I managed to find the comfiest dark red sweater. It's a little baggy, but still flattering. I've pretty much been wearing it all the time now.

T-Shirt Dress'

One thing that I really love are T-shirt dress' and Sweatshirt dress'. I think it's really cute when someone wears a extra long t-shirt with a belt, and tights, a cardigan, or something like that. Another way I've seen it done was to layer another shorter shirt over top. I did this today, and I really liked it. The thing I like about this look is that it can be worn in many different ways. You can make it super glam by wearing a pair of stilettos and a few gold chains, or make it more bohemian by wearing slouchy boots and a vest.

Okay, so I'm really sorry I haven't written in a while. I have a bunch photos to post, but I cannot find my camera cord. I did manage to get one picture off my phone. :)

So I've done a bit of shopping latley and I got a bunch of stuff and probably spent a bit too much money. This is what I got: about four necklaces from Aldo Accessories all of which are fairly large and chuncky, a blue american apparel dress, a red vintage sweater from Divine (on seventeenth ave, in Calgary) which I am absolutely in love with now, two grey t-shirts which I'll use for layering, two harajuku lovers shirts, two pairs of bright blue tights(two different shades of blue) and I'm pretty sure that's it.

In this picture I'm wearing the blue AA dress I mentioned above. The tights are the ones that I also recently bought, along with the two necklaces. One of them has a sparkly blue heart, and the other one has some big clear crystal type things on it. The sweater is one I bought at Zara in France.

PS-I promise I'll write more often from now on!

My first day

Today was my first day of school, and it was most definiatley not what I expected. I was pretty nervous seeing as I hadn't been there for the first week and a half, and I barely knew anyone. But it did turn out fine. Last night I planned out a really cute outfit, but this morning I just wasn't feeling it, so I put on my favorite pair of tapered boyfriend jeans that I bought in France at the begining of the summer, and then my menswear sweatervest I told you about earlier. I also wore my really cute green mary janes which I regreted quickly after social dance started. A word of advice: don't wear heels dancing, I don't know how ballroom dancers do it. Well I guess that better be all because, well, I also have something else to do that comes with starting school again: Homework.

What to wear on a glacier

This morning I was packing for my trip to Camp Greene on Farnham glacier, and I then I realized that I have no idea what you wear on a glacier. I packed all my ski stuff no problem, but when it came to casual clothes to wear in the down time, I was clueless. So, for once in my fashion career I played it safe. I packed a few pairs of jeans, a bunch of T-shirts, a few of my comfy cardigans, and my favorite Lululemon hoodie. Although there's nothing wrong with any of these items, they can make some pretty cute outfits, it's just that it's all pretty boring. As hard as I've tried to think of ways to add some interest to my outfits without looking like I've tried too hard, I couldn't think of anything. Usually when I'm in the city, I'll just throw a belt over a dress, or tie a scarf around my head, but I feel that when I'm on the top of a mountain with nothing around me accept for about thirty tents and three snowcats that this may look slightly out of place. I realize that I may be slightly overanalizing this situation, but I am still very confused about what I'm going to wear.

Jenny Han

Wow, I've just found one of the sweetest designers. Jenny Han. She's been on the scene since 2004, and is based in LA. She is amazing. I was just looking at some photos from her show at LA's fashion week. I really love her style. It is classic and romantic, but it is also very unique. The colors are very fall; lots of darker blues, greens and browns. Although I think I that I may need to look more at Fashion week in places like Paris, and New York where the weather is more similar to here in Canada. Many of these looks would only work in the summer here, but they are cute none the less. Let me know what you think, enjoy.

Lauren Conrad

So, I'm a huge fan of The Hills, and Laguna Beach. I'm also an even bigger fan of Lauren Conrad. I browsing some of the fall 08' looks when I stumbled across some pictures of her show from LA fashion week. I really like her line. One thing that I love about it is that it is very simple and elegant. If I could afford it, I would be on this collection like a fat boy on cake.

These are a few of my favorite peices:

I really love the sleek silouette of this dress, and also I love how the pattern adds some intrest to the dress without it being overwhelming.

I'm pretty sure that Lauren wore this dress when she went to dinner with Stephen in season 3, or on her date with Doug in the first episode of season 4. It may have just been a similar dress though.

I love that this outfit has kind of a Parisian chic look to it.

This is definiatly my favorite dress, I love the two colors, and where the line that seperates them is. It makes the dress very beautiful, and it would be flattering on pretty much anyone.

Normally I'm not one for maxi-dresses, but I really like how this one fits. It looks really good, but I'm not sure if it would work on people with a little more meat on their bones, if you know what I men. Because really, not all of us are international supermodels who only weigh about 90 lbs.

Things I love about starting a new school

Okay, so in a few weeks I will be starting grade ten at a new school. I don't really know to many people at this school, but I am very excited about it. Here are a few reasons why I am, and if you're in the same situation as I am, you should be too:

If ever you've wanted to totally revamp your style, and/or attitude, this is the time.
It's an amazing chance to meet new people, and try new things.

You can get away from all the people that you've been around forever from your old school, of course you'll stay in touch with a few people, but don't you think it's time for a change.

Okay, so that's all I can think of for right now, but if I think of anything else, I will let you know :)

Fashionable objects

Okay, so we all love cute clothing and jewelry, but what about other things that are fashionable. Things that you can't wear, but show off your personal style equally as well. I mean think about it; these are the things that we use everyday. For me, one of these things is Perrier water. I love this stuff; it not only tastes amazing, forces me to drink the right amount of water daily recomended, but it also makes me feel slightly more sofisticated. Think about it; not only is it water, but it's sparkling water. Objects may not be the only things reflect your style, but also it can be your habits, and your special quirks. What would you think if you saw someone wearing a pretty stylish outfit, she's very confident in it, and really owns it, but this isn't what catches your eye; it's the fact that she's drinking Orangina(a drink not typicly enjoyed by people in north america), while knitting. Now, what does this tell you about her personality?

Anyways, pretty much, my point is that sometimes when you think that some of the things you do are dorky, or random, they all affect yous style, character, and how others perceive you to be. I think that that's all pretty sweet.

Menswear

Okay, so we've all seen it: in the past few seasons many designers have put a twist on many classic men's styles, and made them into women's fashions. Well, in my mind, it makes more sense to go buy men's clothing and turn it into women's clothing myself. This way there is a very slim chance that another girl will be wearing the same thing, of course a guy may be. But still, really, doesn't this make more sense than paying excessive amounts of money on some scrap of fabric that used to be a suit jacket, when you could go buy a guys jacket, which is probably half the price, and make it into something cute yourself. I did this the other day at old navy. I went into the guys section and found a sweater vest. There were people looking at me funny when I went up to the register to pay for it, but when I got home, I managed to find a skinny black belt in the back of my closet to cinch the waist of the vest, then I paired it with a simple short black skirt and off I went. I felt really cute, and also very feminine in it too. So, next time you pass the guys section in a store; you may just want to stop and take a peek. :)

Hi, so my name is Suzanne, and I pretty much have two passions in life: Ski Racing, and Fashion. This blog is about one of those passions. Fashion. I love fashion because it can be influenced by anything or anyone. I love that the word "fashionable" can mean anything because it is not limited to one look. One thing that I really hate is when everyone dresses the same. An example of this is my old school. Although we didn't have a school uniform, everyone pretty much wore the exact same thing, and shopped at all the same places. The normal outfit of a girl at this school would include a tna hoodie, too tight jeans, and t-shirts. The lack of creativity at this school was suffocating. I've always admired people who have the courage to try something new and very different with their clothes. Personally, I never hold back with my style for fear of making a mistake or looking like a loser. Style is meant to be experimented with, so what if you make a mistake; it just leaves room to make it better next time.
Well, now you know a few things about how I feel about fashion. Hopefully you'll keep reaing to find out more.
